Description: Bull elk lose their antlers in April and immediately start to grow them back. By early summer their antlers are at least half grown and still covered with a short dense fuzz called velvet. Above this resting bull, on the ridge to the left, another bull elk walked and grazed in the lush green vegetation resulting from the open, wetter ground after the fires of 1988.
