Description: All bighorn sheep have horns, but the ram's horns are much larger. Rams’ spiral horns provide a broad surface to absorb the shock of their heads crashing during the rut. Horns also seem to serve as display organs to advertise their social rank. Large-horned rams dominate smaller-horned rams, resulting in less energy wasted fighting and maintaining social status.
