Description:
The tender attention adult trumpeter swans give in caring for their tiny cygnets is inspiring. They are the largest waterfowl on the North American continent with a seven-foot wing span and weighing up to 27 pounds. Newly hatched cygnets weigh less than half a pound and stand under six inches tall. A pair of adult trumpeter swans cared for their newly hatched cygnets. While feeding themselves, they pulled vegetation for their cygnets off the shore into the water and stirred up the shallow mud with their bills and feet bringing other food to the surface for them. While they went about the steady job of caring for these beautiful cygnets, they protected them so they would live to fly within three months.
