Sunstar Hayden Valley

Yellowstone’s high ridges and open valleys are subjected to a lot of wind.  This ridge in Hayden Valley collects large drifts because it is on the downwind end of the valley.  Every winter the drifts are different shapes, but they always pile up ten to twenty feet deep below the bare ridgetop.  These soft, rounded shapes remind me of frozen clouds.
