Wind Scoured Snowscape
$100.00 – $1,500.00
Infinite patterns form and reform on the crusted surfaces of windblown snow. Wind carries the snowflakes, breaking them up and driving the smaller crystals into each other, tightly welding them to masses hard enough for bison and elk to walk upon. Some places the drifts can cover the ground 10 to 20 feet deep, but on the upwind higher slopes the grass can remain exposed. The durable flexible clumps of grass endure this brutal, scouring environment. The surviving grass clumps often become little snow fences, creating fin backed ribs rising at the base of the grass and trailing off down- wind like frozen waves.
