Enduring a three day storm, this bison calf was maybe learning more than it wanted to know about winter. It was about 10 months old and no longer nursing. Learning to push the cold, enveloping snow away from the grass, its nose and lips were covered with snow and ice. After walking and standing in the deep snow pack, the hair on its legs and belly was embedded and packed with snow. Humped up and huddling in the heavy snowfall, it was being covered with sticky snow. Trying to be as compact as it could, it bunched up its feet and forlornly stood with its ears back waiting for things to improve.
