About an hour after sunrise Castle Geyser was erupting, large banks of heavy steam and fog were hanging in the valley. In the cold, still air a bison was just standing, waiting for things to warm up. She was heavily coated with delicate frost as the drifting moisture, some visible, some not, accumulated on her hair and eyelashes. It would be another half hour before she and others slowly and stiffly walked down the valley, the snow squeaking under their cold feet.
