An elk cow gives her calf a lot of attention for the first month or so. She is in sight of it virtually all the time and occasionally rests right beside it. This calf was content to sleep most of the time, but looked up and sniffed at its mom’s head when the cow scanned the nearby hillside for possible threats. Since there were no problems visible, the cow looked gently at her beautiful calf and started to chew her cud. Comforted, the calf soon went back to sleep.Location: North America.
