Description

Grizzly bears are intelligent animals; they can be very playful when they are well fed and feel secure. This bear, a sow with two cubs, had fed on a bison carcass and wandered around on the creek bottom stopping to scratch and roll in the fresh snow. She sat on her butt absentmindedly scratching, then reached down, picked up one of her hind feet and played with her toes. She leaned back and did a reverse somersault. After rolling around some more she sat up again facing the other direction and played with the toes of her other hind foot. Number 264 Sow in spring snowstorm holding left rear foot in front feet. Location: Yellowstone Park WY.
