Description

Five years after the 1988 fires, the burned lodgepole pine trunks were still black and mostly standing. Grasses and forbs had grown densely among the downed logs along with billions of lodgepole seedlings. Indian paintbrush is a perennial semi-parasitic plant that steals nutrients from the roots of other plants.
