Description

In this aerial view of the Lower Geyser Basin, it is clear that much water is released from these hot springs and geysers. The numerous runoff channels drain northward along the Firehole River. There are thousands of thermal features in this, the largest geyser complex in the world. Nearly half of all the geysers in the world are within 10 miles of the Firehole River. The two columns of steam in the still, early morning air rise from the area around Great Fountain Geyser and Fountain Paint Pots.
