Description

Canary Spring’s name comes from the formation’s canary-yellow color. Waterflowing down the rocks supports algae and bacteria of all colors butpredominantly yellow. Pools are rimmed by travertine rock that forms wherethe water cools. National Park Service geologists estimate the Mammoth Hot Springs formation, where Canary Springs is located, produces two tons ofrock a day.
