Description
Elk prefer to travel through deep snow in single file. The first individuals break a trail and the rest follow in their footsteps. The four cows were traveling down the sough side of the Lamar River to join a larger herd. I carefully timed this shot so all four are visible between the silhouetted cottonwood trees.
