An adult trumpeter swan and her newly hatched cygnets. A pair of adult trumpeter swans cared for their newly hatched cygnets. While feeding themselves, they pulled vegetation for their cygnets off the shore into the water and stirred up the shallow mud with their bills and feet bringing other food to the surface for them. While they went about the steady job of caring for these beautiful cygnets, they protected them so they would live to fly within three months. After spending about half an hour feeding in the water, the adult trumpeter swans brought everyone to shore. The five cygnets stepped out of the water onto the grass, taking a last drink. Just before walking up the bank to rest, the adult reached back to the water for a little sip, too.
