Description

The pastel colors of weathered rhyolite are softened in the far wall of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone by a light snow shower in June. Lodgepole pines stand on fractured blocks of nearly sterile dry stone above the river hundreds of feet below. Many of the surviving trees on these inhospitable slopes endure with their twisted roots spread and exposed above the eroding abyss.
